Recently, the Today Show aired a special on inhalant abuse. While the segment addressed point of sale practices in retail establishments, the reality is that children can and will get their hands on whatever product they want because they are everywhere- in houses, kitchens, garages, decks, and schools across the country. And, children are abusing well over 1,400 common household products to get high. And while your children are familiar with inhalant abuse-are you? When was the last time you spoke to them about inhalant abuse prevention?
We here at the Alliance for Consumer Education believe that education is the number one tool in combating inhalant abuse. Partnership for a Drug Free America’s PATS study consistently shows that if a parent talks to their child about inhalant abuse, that child is 50% less likely to ever try an inhalant. Your voice is critical here and could help save your child’s life.
